  Your thoughts on the Libertarian party

  i really like what governors w.weld and g. johnson bring to the table.. not familiar with the libertarian party and will do some investigation,.

  but any thoughts on this party..

  Sorry, this is the kind of thinking that created the current political mess in this country. Sometimes you have to think outside the box.

  Agree, however Libertarian policies have much less of a chance than the Republican Party did in the mid 19th century. As a younger person I was quite the Libertarian, but as I get older I become more of a Democrat that feels that the strong have to do the lifting for the weak. I rather didn't have the government dictating redistribution, but if left up to the individual we would have an ever growing gap between rich and poor, until the system collapses as it has many a time. Libertarian ideas are guiding principles for the strong, but they are hard to sell to the weak.

  Mostly great ideas. the problem is selling those ideas to the people who benefit from big government, the majority. Not a chance they can win so you have to choose from the lesser of two evils. If social issues are your main concern, then vote for a moderate Democrat, if fiscal issues are your main concern, then vote for a moderate Republican. If principle is the diving force, then waste your vote for the Libertarian candidate. It's lonely being a Libertarian.

  so i went to the convention this past weekend.

  not, because i wanted to....but, because i had no choice.. i took myself and our son's out walking every chance i had, i made it so we missed the bunker video, the drama, the stupid dream squashing video with the violin.. but, while in there sitting.

  I feel your pain and frustration.

  II wish you had recorded it. Turn your frustration into an intense desire to undermine the power of the cult. Words like the ones you quoted need to be out in the court of public opinion.

  Recent mistakes of the Governing Body contributing to the decline of JWs

  they have made so many strategical mistakes it's hard to keep track.

  some changes within the last decade or so that are contributing to declining numbers of jws:.

  1. elimination of book study groups, the most informal, enjoyable and sociable of the jw meetings, contributed to loss of sense of community among jws.. 2. policy of consolidating kingdom halls.

  Their decline would have happened even if they had not done anything, at a slower pace though. They just accelerated their demise. The internet and greater access to education in the last 50 years will erode the power of religion, any religion.

  In the case of the JW leadership, I have a conspiracy theory that I find attractive and plausible. Some people on charge of finances likes the idea of reducing membership because it will enable them to convert into vanishing liquid assets some of their huge real estate portfolio.

  there is nothing wrong with accepting new ideas.

  even apostle paul changed his mind when he "saw the light".

  indeed, i hope to learn new things every day.

  The problem is not just forcing people to accept new ideas, but forcing them to accept ideas that are far more ridiculous than previous ones. Overlapping generations anyone?

  New ideas are supposed to bring progress, more consistency and harmony into our body of knowledge.

  Some religious groups move backwards into medieval times (Bible literalists in the U.S.), others like JW's move into senseless chaos or la-la land.

  the tester was a pharisee of the ruling class.

  jehovah's witnesses believe the tester to have been an evil spirit or leader of fallen angels named satan the devil.

  Doesn`t the book of Job allude to a fallen Angel?

  No, I don't believe so. The so called fallen angel is a concept that was first hinted in the 1 Chronicles 21:1 (compare to 2 Samuel 24:1 where there is no Satan whatsoever). Any other time the word satan appears in the OT is a concept, someone who opposes or blocks or argues against, an accuser, an adversary, which is precisely the role of Satan in the book of Job. He is just someone who is having a different position from God. The word later evolved into a proper name with a capital "S", Satan. This is an idea that definitely is post Babylonian exile. Quite likely developed during the Persian or Greek periods

  terri o'sullivan was interviewed by croydon radio for a programme called "leap of faith", it was broadcast on sunday.. she does a great job of showing how wacky and weird the jw beliefs and practices are, the interviewer asks perceptive questions, either he was well briefed by terri or he is an ex jw !.

  I am with Slim. The missing details may not justify the actions, but at least may soften the idea of mom being extreme. Possibly just an old fashion mom, but not extreme. My Catholic maternal grandma would have done exactly the same to my mother if she knew that my mom had come late and had been with a boyfriend. And my grandma would have had the approval of most people her age and generation.

  The problem with perceived exaggerations is that they may detract from the messenger's credibility, even when the message is accurate and fair.

  Low Day For Me Today

  hi guys.

  it's been about 4 or 5 weeks since i was disfellowshipped.

  so far it's been easy, i enjoyed being left alone, no one bothering me, no one telling me i need to do more, need to reach out, questioning why i didnt go on the ministry, and the fact that my ex-wifes family cant talk to me even if they wanted to.

  Sorry pale emperor,

  I live in Los Angeles, and in a way, have a similar problem. In my case, however, is my choice. I am more of a introvert. The great difference is that I can freely bash the Governing Body and, believe it or not, my family (wife , children, brothers, nephews and nieces) becomes more friendly few hours/days after the rant. Swear to the Spaghetti monster, it's true.

  I mentioned that I live in L.A. in case you live in the area and want to meet, we may have common hobbies and interests, besides our hate of the cult.
